Lenny Duncan April 6

THE CALVARY RACE EQUITY COMMITTEE is thrilled to announce that Lenny Duncan will be a guest preacher at Calvary Lutheran Church on Sunday April 7th.

There will also be a special reception and book reading of “Dear Church:  A Love Letter from a Black Preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the United States” at Calvary with Lenny on Saturday April 6th 7:00 – 9:00.  This event will be a fund raiser for The Emmaus Collective which is an organization focused on congregations doing anti-racism work and striving to be “safer”.  It is similar to the Reconciling in Christ program that many of us are familiar with.  The suggested donation amount for attendance is $10.

Pastor Lenny Duncan (he/him) is a follower of Jesus Christ and is in a passionate love affair with Grace. March 2018 he was issued a call to serve the people of East New York at Jehu's Table from the Metro New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as a mission developer (church planter.)  He is also a frequent voice on the intersection of the Church and the cries of the oppressed. He pays special attention to Black Liberation movements in his work, but lifts up the frequent intersection with other marginalized peoples.  He believes that the reason the ELCA has remained so white is a theological problem, not a sociological one.  He holds a Master of Divinity from United Lutheran Seminary. His book “Dear Church: A Love Letter from a Black Preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the U.S” available for preorder on Amazon-
